
Banda, UP: A distressing case of blackmail has come to light in Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, where a young woman allegedly took her own life after being threatened with the circulation of an obscene video.
Blackmail and Marriage Pressure
The 20-year-old victim, a resident of a village in Chilla police station area of Palani Tehsil, was reportedly harassed by Manish Nishad, son of Arjun Nishad, from her own village. Manish allegedly sent obscene messages via mobile and threatened that he had a compromising video of the woman. He further warned that the video would be leaked if she did not agree to marry him.
Fear Kept Her Silent
Terrified by the threats, the young woman did not disclose the harassment to her family. The constant pressure and intimidation by Manish reportedly caused severe mental stress.
Poisoning Leads to Death
On 19 December, while alone at home, the woman consumed poison, ending her life. Following her death, her family discovered the extent of the blackmail by checking her mobile phone.
Mother Alleges Threats by Accused
The deceased’s mother stated in a complaint that Manish Nishad and his brother Shailendra Nishad had threatened them with violence when they considered approaching the police. She described both as aggressive individuals capable of committing serious crimes.
Police Action Initiated
Chilla Police Station in-charge Anoop Dubey confirmed that a case under relevant sections has been registered against Manish and Shailendra Nishad based on the mother’s complaint. The investigation has been assigned to a sub-inspector, and authorities are working to apprehend the accused promptly.
