UP Launches Electricity Bill Relief Scheme From Today: Major Waiver Announced for Defaulters — Know How to Apply

In a significant relief for electricity consumers across Uttar Pradesh, the state government has rolled out the Electricity Bill Relief Scheme 2025, effective from today. The initiative aims to ease the financial burden on domestic and small commercial consumers struggling with long-pending electricity dues. With one of the biggest rebates announced so far, the scheme is expected to benefit lakhs of people.

100% Waiver on Interest and Surcharge

Under the scheme, consumers will receive a complete waiver on interest and surcharge accumulated over the years. Additionally, a 25% concession on the principal amount (main outstanding bill) will be provided in the first phase of the scheme.
This relief is especially helpful for consumers whose connections were disconnected due to non-payment or who faced penalties in electricity theft cases. Through this scheme, such consumers will now be able to regularise their connections legally.

Scheme Divided Into Three Phases

To maximise benefits, the government has structured the scheme into three phases:

  • Phase 1: December 1 to December 31, 202525% discount on principal amount
  • Phase 2: January 1 to January 31, 202620% discount on principal amount
  • Phase 3: February 1 to February 28, 202615% discount on principal amount

Authorities have advised consumers to avail the scheme early to secure the highest possible rebate.

How to Apply

To receive the benefits, consumers must register under the scheme. Registration can be completed:

  • Online through the UPPCL official website, or
  • At the nearest electricity department office or facilitation centre.

Upon registration and payment of the prescribed fee, the consumer’s outstanding dues will be recalculated with full interest waiver. Consumers will then have the option to pay their revised dues either through a one-time settlement or via easy instalments.

Valid Until February 28, 2026

The scheme will remain active until February 28, 2026. According to the state government, this initiative will not only provide significant relief to consumers but also accelerate revenue recovery for the electricity department. Officials say the scheme offers a crucial opportunity for defaulters and disconnected users to regularise their connections without the fear of penalties.
