OpenAI has officially launched its latest AI model, ChatGPT 5.2, and it is now rolling out globally — including for users in India. However, the upgraded model will initially remain exclusive to paid subscribers, meaning free users will not have access at this stage. The company claims the new version is significantly more powerful, capable of handling advanced tasks efficiently and saving users considerable time.
A More Capable AI Model
According to OpenAI, ChatGPT 5.2 offers major improvements over previous versions. The model is better at understanding complex queries, generating high-quality code, and managing challenging projects. Users will now be able to perform tasks like creating spreadsheets, organising complicated workflows, and executing advanced data-handling operations directly through ChatGPT.
The new release comes in three variants:
- ChatGPT 5.2 Instant
- ChatGPT 5.2 Thinking
- ChatGPT 5.2 Pro
Who Will Get Access?
All three models will begin rolling out from 12 December, but only to users with paid subscriptions. These include:
- ChatGPT Plus
- ChatGPT Pro
- ChatGPT Business
- ChatGPT Enterprise
- Paid Go Plan users
However, users with the free version of the Go plan will not be able to use ChatGPT 5.2.
Similarly, anyone without a subscription will continue using older models.
Rollout Timeline
Even though ChatGPT 5.2 has been launched, its availability is being expanded gradually. Paid users who haven’t yet received it are advised to wait a few more days.
Meanwhile, the previous version, ChatGPT 5.1, will remain available for paid subscribers for the next three months, after which all paid users will be migrated to 5.2.
Is Any Download Required?
Many users wonder whether new ChatGPT versions require installation or downloads. The answer is no.
ChatGPT 5.2 will appear automatically in the user interface once it reaches your account. You can start using it instantly without installing anything.
