Smartphone buyers in India may need to dig a little deeper into their pockets as Samsung Galaxy A Series prices are set to rise from December 15. Renowned tipster Abhishek Yadav has revealed that some models could see a price hike of up to ₹2,000. Meanwhile, Vivo and Realme smartphones have also become more expensive, and newly launched models are entering the market at higher price points compared to their predecessors. The primary reason behind this surge is the increasing cost and demand for memory chips, affecting both premium and mid-range smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy A Series Price Hike
According to Abhishek Yadav, Samsung’s Galaxy A Series smartphones are expected to become pricier starting today. For example:
- Galaxy A56:
- Current 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant: ₹41,999 → New price: ₹43,999
- Current 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant: ₹47,999 → Expected increase up to ₹2,000
- Galaxy A36:
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: ₹32,999 → New price: ₹33,999
- 12GB RAM + 256GB storage: ₹38,999
- Galaxy A17:
- Original launch price: ₹18,999 → New expected starting price: ₹19,999
The price adjustments reflect the broader trend of rising smartphone costs across various segments.
Vivo, Realme, and Other Brands Also Raise Prices
Samsung isn’t alone in raising prices. Tipster Debayan Roy reports that several Vivo models, including T4x, T4 Lite, T4, and T4R, are now more expensive. Similarly, iQOO models (Z10x, Z10 Lite, Z10, Z10R, and Neo 10) and Realme devices like 15x, 15T, and P4 have also seen price hikes. Other brands impacted include Oppo Reno 14 Series, Oppo F31 Series, and Redmi Pad 2.
Why Are Smartphone Prices Rising?
The primary reason for the price surge is the increasing cost of memory chips, particularly HBM and DDR5 DRAM, which are in high demand for AI data centers. This global shortage in the semiconductor industry has forced smartphone manufacturers to pay more for essential components.
The impact is being seen across premium smartphones, as well as mid-range devices, meaning that even budget-conscious buyers may face higher costs. Newly launched devices like OnePlus 15, Vivo X300, and iQOO 15 are already hitting the market at prices significantly higher than their previous generation models, with iQOO 15 showing a 33% increase compared to older versions.
As global chip costs continue to rise and demand for AI infrastructure grows, smartphone users in India should brace for higher prices, whether they are looking for flagship devices or budget-friendly options.
