Pakistan has taken a significant leap in the world of modern technology by launching its first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) Data Center and AI Cloud Infrastructure. With this development, the country is confident that its sensitive data will now remain secure within national borders, instead of being stored on foreign servers.
Pakistan’s First AI Data Center Goes Live
For the first time, Pakistan has established a fully operational AI Data Center, developed jointly by Telenor and Data Vault. The project is expected to accelerate AI adoption across crucial sectors such as healthcare, banking, public safety, cybersecurity, and logistics.
The facility is equipped with high-performance NVIDIA GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) — the most essential hardware for training and deploying AI models. Until now, Pakistani institutions faced difficulties in acquiring these advanced chips due to global shortages and high import costs. With the new center, AI capabilities will now be available domestically and at scale.
A Breakthrough Amid US Sanctions
According to a report by Dawn (Ref.), the US has restricted the export of high-end NVIDIA chips to several countries, including China and Pakistan. Despite these limitations, Data Vault secured special approval to import more than 3,000 high-power GPUs after undergoing strict scrutiny.
Data Vault CEO Mehwish Salman Ali revealed that their facility is currently the only GPU-enabled data center in Pakistan. She added that, despite global GPU shortages and export restrictions, the company’s long-term planning and strategic collaboration with NVIDIA partners helped them obtain the necessary permissions.
The firm is now offering GPU resources on rental to Pakistani businesses, startups, and government departments — a move expected to boost AI innovation within the country.
Why This Matters for Pakistan
The new AI infrastructure is poised to transform multiple sectors:
- Banking: Improved fraud detection, safer transactions
- Healthcare: Faster diagnostics, secure digital health records
- Agriculture: AI-based crop monitoring and yield prediction
- Industry & Logistics: Automation, predictive maintenance
- Government Services: Smarter governance, enhanced public safety
- Research & Education: Development of AI models in Urdu and regional languages
Local universities, researchers, and startups can now build large-scale AI models without relying on expensive foreign services.
Stronger Data Security: National Data Will Stay Within Pakistan
One of the most important benefits of the new AI Data Center is data sovereignty. Sensitive information such as:
- banking records
- telecom data
- hospital reports
- government databases
will now be stored inside Pakistan. This reduces the risk of cyberattacks, enhances privacy protection, and significantly strengthens the country’s cybersecurity framework.
Ending Dependence on Foreign Cloud Services
Until now, a majority of Pakistan’s organizations relied on foreign cloud platforms for AI development and data storage. This meant their data routinely moved outside the country — raising concerns about privacy breaches and security vulnerabilities.
With the launch of its own AI cloud, Pakistan is taking a major step toward digital autonomy and technological self-reliance.
