Samsung’s latest innovation, the Galaxy Z TriFold, made headlines for its unique triple-fold design. However, a recent durability test by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything has raised serious concerns. During a bend test, the highly anticipated phone failed, breaking under pressure.
The test revealed that the Galaxy Z TriFold’s thin plastic back panel struggles to provide structural strength. Another tech channel, OMG_electronics, highlighted that the phone’s hinge begins to weaken after approximately 61,000 folds and fails completely around 144,000 folds—far below Samsung’s claim of 200,000 folds.
The phone’s sales appear to reflect these concerns. Industry estimates suggest that Samsung has sold only 3,000–4,000 units, with global sales unlikely to exceed 30,000–40,000 units.
Specifications & Features
When fully unfolded, the Galaxy Z TriFold measures 159.2mm x 214.1mm x 3.9–4.2mm, and 12.9mm when folded. It features a 10-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED inner display (2,160 x 1,584 resolution, 1,600 nits peak brightness) and a 6.5-inch FHD+ outer AMOLED screen with variable refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz. The device is powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, coupled with 16GB RAM, and comes in 512GB and 1TB storage options.
Additional features include a 5,600mAh battery with 45W wired charging, IP48 dust and water resistance, Android 16 with One UI 8.0, and Samsung’s promise of 7 Android OS updates. The camera setup boasts a 200MP main sensor, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto lens, and 10MP front cameras on both displays.
While the Galaxy Z TriFold impresses with its specifications and features, the recent bend test underscores a major challenge for Samsung: durability and long-term reliability. Users will need to handle this innovative device with extra care.
