Zoho Arattai to Challenge WhatsApp with Upcoming Features: Founder Sridhar Vembu Shares Insights

Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has shared exciting updates about Arattai, Zoho’s homegrown instant messaging app, positioning it as a strong competitor to WhatsApp. According to Vembu, several key features are currently under development, and once finalized, the app will undergo large-scale marketing to expand its user base.

In a recent post on his official X account, Vembu responded to a user query about the app’s current visibility. He revealed that the team is focused on implementing significant features that will enhance the app’s functionality. Vembu emphasized that once the features meet their standards, Arattai will be promoted extensively.

“We are updating the app weekly and working on some very important features,” Vembu wrote. “Once we are satisfied with these updates, we will increase promotion. This is a marathon, and we are ready for it.”

Arattai was launched by Zoho during India’s COVID-19 lockdown as a secure messaging platform. Over time, it has incorporated many popular features already present in apps like WhatsApp, including encrypted one-on-one and group chats, voice and video calls, media sharing, cloud backup, contact sync, and disappearing messages. Recent updates also include multi-device login, custom themes, and improved integration with the Zoho ecosystem.

Despite these advancements, Arattai still lags behind WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal in terms of usage. However, Vembu’s latest post indicates that Zoho plans to roll out large-scale marketing campaigns after perfecting the product, signaling a determined push to capture the Indian messaging market.
