Shahdol, MP: In a case highlighting administrative negligence, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has imposed a fine of ₹2 lakh on Shahdol Collector Kedar Singh for wrongful imprisonment of a farmer’s son under the National Security Act (NSA). The victim, Sushant Bais, was confined for over one year and five days, causing immense mental and financial distress to his family.
According to reports, Sushant, who returned to his village Saman, Shahdol, in September 2025, revealed the hardships his family endured during his incarceration. His pregnant wife faced severe mental stress, while his father Hiraman Bais had to take a loan of ₹2 lakh to fight for Sushant’s release. The family, primarily dependent on farming their three-acre land, struggled to manage the mounting expenses.
